About Ipswich Football
Ipswich Football is an independent, fan-run reference site for Ipswich Town FC — fixtures, results, the league table, head-to-head records, and a match archive going back to the club's first Football League season in 1938. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or run by Ipswich Town Football Club in any way. For official news, tickets and club shop, see the club's official website.
How the site works
The site rebuilds itself. A scheduled job fetches fixtures, results and league data every couple of hours (and more often on matchdays), and the pages you're reading are generated from that data automatically — there's no newsroom behind it. Around each match, a short preview and report are drafted automatically from the recorded facts (scoreline, scorers, league position, head-to-head record); if the automated check on that text ever fails, the site simply shows the match facts without the write-up rather than publish something wrong. Historical pages, like this one's neighbours, are written once and kept static.
Data sources
Every figure on this site traces back to one of the following, credited here:
- ESPN (espn.com) — current and recent fixtures, results, league tables and squad data.
- engsoccerdata (open historical dataset) — the archive of English league results back to 1938 that powers every early match and season page.
- TheSportsDB (thesportsdb.com) — club artwork and description.
- Wikipedia — background text on club history is adapted from the Ipswich Town F.C. Wikipedia article, used under the CC BY-SA licence.
- BBC Sport and TWTD (Two Way Traffic Down) — news headlines on the news page link out to the original article on each publisher's own site; no article text is copied.
- Fantasy Premier League API — player prices, points and ownership shown on individual player pages, for seasons Ipswich play in the Premier League.
- Cloudflare Workers AI — writes the match previews and reports you'll find on recent match pages. Every draft is generated only from this site's own verified match data (scoreline, scorers, table position, head-to-head record) and is checked against that data before publishing; if a draft ever fails that check, the page shows the match facts without a write-up rather than publish something wrong.
Advertising
The site carries reserved ad slots to help cover its running costs. No advertising or tracking is currently active — see the privacy policy for details, which will be updated before any ad network goes live.
