Portman Road

Portman Road has been Ipswich Town's home ground since 1884 — longer than the club has been a Football League member. It sits just south-west of Ipswich town centre, a short walk from Ipswich railway station, and is the largest football ground in East Anglia.

Redevelopment

The ground was substantially redeveloped around the turn of the millennium, taking it from an earlier capacity of roughly 22,500 to just over 30,000 — all-seated, across four stands. Floodlights were first installed in 1961, in time for the club's title-winning First Division campaign the following season.

European nights

Portman Road has a proud record in European competition: during the club's UEFA Cup-winning run in 1980–81 and the seasons around it, Ipswich went unbeaten at home in Europe, seeing off sides including Real Madrid, AC Milan, Internazionale, Lazio and Barcelona — visits still talked about by supporters today.
